Choosing the Right Waterproof Sheet: Standard, Extreme, or Vinyl?

We make three waterproof fitted sheets. They all do the same basic job, which is keeping gel, oil, and water off your mattress. They're built for different setups though, and this guide explains the differences in plain language so you can pick the one that suits how you'll actually use it.

The short version: Standard is the everyday sheet for occasional spills and light Nuru. Extreme is the polyester-based version for heavier oil and water use. Vinyl V2 is the dedicated Nuru sheet with the slipperiest surface we make.

The quick comparison

Standard: the everyday sheet

The Standard sheet is a 95% polyester / 5% spandex weave with TPU waterproof lamination on the top surface. It looks and feels like a normal fitted bedsheet. Soft, breathable, quiet. Most owners use it as their regular mattress protector with the option to do massage on top of it when they want.

It handles light spills, water-based gels, and short Nuru sessions without trouble. The sides are elastic mesh rather than fully waterproof, so it isn't designed to contain a large pour or a long oil-based session. For that, you want the Extreme.

Cleanup is a normal wash cycle and tumble dry. Quiet, low-fuss, easy to live with as your everyday sheet.

Pick the Standard if: you want a permanent mattress protector that doubles as a Nuru surface, you do shorter sessions, you'd rather throw it in the wash than wipe it down.

Extreme: full polyester coverage

The Extreme uses the same polyester / spandex / TPU build as the Standard but extends the waterproof coating across the sides of the sheet as well as the top. The skirt is fully waterproof, not just elastic mesh.

This matters when the session involves a lot of gel, oil, or water. With the Standard, a heavy pour can run off the top and soak through the mesh sides into your mattress. The Extreme contains it.

The feel is identical to the Standard. Soft, fabric-like, quiet. Same machine-washable, tumble-dryer-safe cleanup. The only real difference is the total waterproof envelope.

Pick the Extreme if: you do longer Nuru sessions, you use oil-based products as well as Nuru gel, or you've had gel reach your mattress through the sides of a Standard sheet.

Vinyl V2: the dedicated Nuru surface

The V2 vinyl sheet is built specifically for Nuru massage. It uses 0.3mm vinyl with a flocked underside for grip, a deep adjustable skirt that fits any mattress up to a 15-inch pillowtop, two side pockets for oils and gel, and eight discreet D-rings around the skirt for optional attachment points.

The vinyl surface is the slipperiest of the three. It's what gives Nuru gel its full glide, which is the experience couples are usually after when they choose Nuru in the first place. The polyester sheets are soft and quiet, but they don't reach the same slip.

Cleanup is faster than the other two: thirty seconds with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then air-dry. No machine washing, no tumble dryer.

Pick the V2 Vinyl if: you do Nuru sessions specifically and want the full body-to-body glide, you want the side pockets, or you want a setup that doesn't double as your everyday bedsheet. Read the V2 launch post for the full feature breakdown.

Sizing and fit

All three sheets come in Queen and King. The Standard and Extreme fit US/AU mattresses up to about 12 inches deep. The V2 Vinyl has the deeper adjustable skirt and fits anything from 8 to 15 inches.

If you have a pillowtop or memory-foam mattress thicker than 12 inches, go with the Vinyl V2. It's the only one of the three that will properly secure on a deep mattress without bunching.

Care and longevity

The Standard and Extreme are machine washable and tumble-dryer safe. Wash separately for the first one or two cycles to reduce any colour bleed. With normal weekly use, both sheets last two to three years before showing wear.

The V2 Vinyl is wipe-clean only. Damp cloth, mild detergent, air-dry fully before folding. Avoid bleach, machine washing, the tumble dryer, and prolonged direct sunlight. Expect two to three years of weekly use before any visible wear.
