What is nuru massage gel powder?

Nuru is a Japanese-style body-to-body massage using an extremely slippery gel. Traditional ready-mixed nuru gel spoils quickly, which is why the powder form is preferred by most buyers. You only mix what you need, and dry powder keeps for around a year.

How do I mix the powder?

Add 8.45 fl oz to 16.09 fl oz (250ml-500ml) of warm water (40°C/104°F) to a bowl. It is best to start with 250ml and then adjust consistency. Evenly sprinkle around one tsp (5g) of powder to every 16.09 fl oz (500ml) of warm water. Wait around five minutes for the mixture to completely form into massage gel. Apply to wet skin.

Is Platinum fragrance-free?

Yes. The Platinum edition has no added fragrance, no essential oils, and no dyes. Completely fragrance-free on the skin.

Is sodium polyacrylate safe? I've heard it's not natural.

Sodium polyacrylate sounds like a chemistry lab experiment, but it's actually approved as a food additive in Japan, one of the world's most rigorous food safety markets. It's non-toxic, non-irritating, and the ingredient responsible for that signature thick, slippery nuru feel. We've explored natural alternatives extensively, but nothing delivers the authentic experience our customers expect. We'd rather give you something that works safely and effectively than something that just sounds good on a label.

Can I store leftover mixed gel?

No. Our powders contain no preservatives, so mixed gel should be used for that session only and any remainder disposed of. The advantage of the powder format is that you mix fresh every time. For sessions where you only need 500ml, scoop out about 1 teaspoon (roughly 5g) of powder and mix fresh, rather than mixing the whole sachet at once.

Will it stain my sheets?

The gel is clear and non-staining on most fabrics. For peace of mind, we recommend pairing it with a waterproof sheet or a flat drop sheet. Any splashes on clothing wash out in warm soapy water.

How long does the dry powder last?

Around a year in a cool, dry place. Each 5g sachet is individually sealed until you open it.

Is Platinum suitable for sensitive skin?

Platinum is our neutral edition with no added botanicals, which is why many sensitive-skin customers choose it first. Patch test on your forearm before a full session if you're unsure.

Is it vegan?

Yes. Platinum is Vege Project certified vegan.

Which pack size should I pick?

The single 5g is the cheapest first try. The pack of 3 or 5 is what most couples reorder. The pack of 10 is best value per sachet if you know you love it. If you also want a mixing bowl, see our Platinum with Mixing Bowl listing.

Crazy expensive

Ridiculously overpriced for a few small sachets. You ideally need a blender to mix it with warm water, as just swishing it around ends up with various lumps in the mixture which rather kill the mood. I found it fairly non-sticky and I thought it kept its smooth sliding feel quite well (and refreshes immediately with a splash of water), but partner didn't like it at all and decried its sticky icky ness! Anyway, best used in very hot weather or a very warm room, and on a plastic blow-up mattress or a waterproof sheet - plenty of videos out there. But also plenty of cheaper options than this.

The gel powder itself is amazing, beyond expectations. The packages are nice and small, and the design is simple but alluring. The only thing that would make this product a must have for me is if I was able to buy it for a much more affordable price. Maybe if there was a stock of the stuff in Serbia, where I live.

It's very lumpy.

Terrible product for the price; it's very lumpy, doesn't become completely liquid, and you have to use almost the entire box for one bath.

Very Interesting Texture & Experience

This stuff is really interesting. First I thought that those 5G sachets are tiny and I didn't believe that such a small amount could possibly create so much massage gel. I had to search the web to learn more about Nuru massage before we used it the first time. My partner is massage therapist but for classic Thai massage and oil massage so he also didn't have any experience with or knowledge about Nuru. It is obviously a form of partner massage that involves intentive skin to skin contact so it came to no surprise that the 500ML are really needed for it to work properly. Mixing the powder was easy and the massage gel becomes sort of gooey-slimy-semi-liquid. Even though the gel is supposed to be fragrance free, it does have some smell to it but luckily that smell isn't unpleasant. Just like water-based lubricants, the gel tends to become a little bit sticky after a while when it starts drying up on the skin but with that half litre amount, you can easily top the skin up with more gel a couple of times. I also noticed that the gel can get re-activated a little bit if you spray some water onto the dried areas. It is definitely something different and it is well worth trying every now and then. Initially I thought, £30 for ten of those tiny sachets is pretty expensive but now that I saw how much gel this powder makes, the set of 10 actually offers great value for money, especially if you compare it with how much half a litre of massage gel costs, not to speak of the price for massage oil.

Great product

This Premium Nuru Massage Gel Powder (Pack of 10) is good quality. I like that this massage gel powder is made from natural ingredients with no hidden nasties. Handy sachets for anyone trying this for the first time, taking with you travelling or if you prefer to only mix a smaller batch rather than use a bigger tub. The powder mixed and dissolved well, no issues with clumping and at roughly 10 minutes the gel has formed as advertised. The gel is a good consistency and certainly is slippery on the skin. It massages well and when drying doesn't leave any residue. I also had no issues with staining or any reactions on the skin. Personally I prefer the tub I got before as I can mix up the desired amount without having to open another sachet. Overall a very good product and at the time of review, the reduced price is good value.

creates a surprising amount of liquid but pricey

Mixing a tiny packet of this mixture with water yields a surprising amount of slippery liquid for a massage. I have only opened two of the pouches so far and the experience has been very pleasant because the consistency is easy to work with. You will notice that the substance feels quite cold when it first touches the skin so warming it up slightly in a bowl of hot water beforehand is a smart move. If you make a batch for personal use it can easily be stretched for another session if you preserve the leftovers in the fridge to stop it from spoiling. Spilling this liquid on a hard floor will make the surface incredibly slick so you should definitely lay down a large towel or a waterproof sheet before getting started to avoid any accidents. This is a very practical kit for saving storage space in the bedroom and I feel the amount of product you get from one small box makes it excellent value for money if you're providing a service, but for personal use it may be pricey.

Lovely stuff! Excellent value and good quality mix your own nuru massage gel

Nuru is a particular type of full body Japanese massage ( do not use your work computer to google it!) and you need a lot of massage gel to do it properly. These sachets make up to 500mls of gel each and at the regular price of £40 this is fantastic value, even better at the current offer price of under £30 for ten sachets. If you are not sure whether nuru is for you, you can get fewer sachets, or even just one and borrow a paddling pool to try it out. If you like nuru and are happy using these synthetic based powders, then I really recommend this product. The sachets are great because you only need one or two per session and you do not run the risk of your expensive bulk buy of powder turning into a solid block because the container was not quite air tight ( reader, I cried). Neither my partner nor I experienced any adverse effects from the gel, including use in delicate areas but of course a patch test is always recommended. I use a large protein shaker to mix and found this mixed really easily ( you can get gorgeous nuru mixers which really add to the sense of occasion, but for now I will stick with my repurposed plastic bottle: I like that I can pour from it and control the amount somewhat. I like the gel to verge on liquid so made up the full 500mls from a sachet and it made the gorgeous gloopy stringy mix expected and enabled one to slip and slide freely as required. I found it tasteless ( in the best way!) and with a very mild fresh smell. As with all nuru gels it does dry on the skin during prolonged play, but mixes well with a little added water.

Good, Well-Packed Gel

This is pretty decent stuff. Firstly, a word to the wise: this is not massage oil for back rubs. It is a specialist gel for a an unusual type of 'couples massage' (don't look it up on your work computer). This means a few things. One: you're expected to have a shower after this, not rub it into your skin and leave it there. If you do you will feel very dry. Two: yes it's sticky, it's more like a full body lubricant than an oil.

Like most nuru gels (and all of them within this price range) it's a synthetic mix which is mostly sodium polyacrylate. This is not a natural product. On the plus side, this means it should keep well and it has no odor and won't go off.

It's a real plus that you get ten mini sachets. I'm always a bit nervous of resealable packaging. This stuff absorbs moisture so well, I can really see the larger packs turning into a solid block before they've been fully used, even if you take care to seal them as well as you can.

So in all, this is a decent product, turned into an excellent one by having individually packaged amounts that should help it keep longer. It is synthetic, but that's what you get at this price point, and I think overall, this is good value for money, and I'm happy to recommend it.

(One thing I should add is that the photo shows 8 sachets, there were ten in the pack, I just made two up for testing before I took the photo.)

Silky Massage Gel That Leaves Skin Feeling Soft and Hydrated

I was a little unsure about this at first, simply because gel powders can feel a bit unusual until you have tried them properly. Once prepared and used, though, it actually left the skin feeling noticeably smoother and more hydrated, so it did seem to do what it promises.
What I liked most was the silky texture once mixed. It felt pleasant on the skin and did not leave things feeling tacky afterwards, which was a relief. The sachet format is also quite practical, as it keeps everything simple and easy to prepare when needed.
My partner and I both felt that, once past the initial hesitation, it worked well and gave a more comfortable, moisturised feel to the skin. I would say it is one of those products that may seem slightly unusual at first, but the end result was positive and it performed better than expected.

Custom‑Mix Massage Gel Powder with a Silky, Professional Glide

Ditch the pre-made bottles and experience the ultimate professional-grade glide with this authentic Japanese-made massage gel powder. Formulated for total customisation, this versatile "mix-it-yourself" formula lets you control the consistency—from a light, hydrating slip to a thick, ultra-slimy therapeutic gel.

It’s fragrance-free, flavourless, and 100% stain-free, so you can skip the greasy clean-up associated with traditional oils and creams. Preparation is a breeze: I start with very hot water and I add a few drops essential oil, whisk in the powder to eliminate lumps, letting it set for a few minutes until it hits that perfect, silky texture.

Because it’s a lightweight powder, it’s the ultimate travel companion—just mix what you need, whenever you need it. Whether you’re looking for deep relaxation or a sensory "nuru-style" experience, this platinum-tier powder delivers a frictionless, high-end finish that puts store-bought lotions to shame.

When it gets dry in use just add a little bit of water on the skin. If using as a whole body massage, the whole experience is rather messy but super erotic and enjoyable,

Main ingredient in the powder is sodium polyacrylate aka waterlock.

Excellent gel. Quick to make. Minimal stringing.

This is similar in concept to other powder and water based gels I’ve used, and definitely the best so far. Each sachet is stated to make around 500 mL of product, but this can be varied either way. I used part of a packet as a test, adding water and stirring to explore and adjust consistency. More powder can be added and mixed without issue. Consistency is personal preference, so I’d recommend starting with a smaller amount of powder and water to see how it behaves, and then scale up from there as needed. The mix was usable within a few minutes, which was quicker than other products I’ve used.

I had a few clumps forming at times, but these disappeared after a while. There is no smell, and it caused no skin irritation.

Unlike some self-mix powder based products this has almost no stringing. It does dry quicker than oil based, but you can either add more water to the skin as that tends to reactivate it, or simply use more gel. It also seemed to dry slower and become less sticky as it dried than others I have used. Spills do not seem to cause any long term damage to fabrics.

There are no preservatives, so there is potential for bacteria growth over time with any unused gel. Advice I read during research suggested not using a mix beyond 2 or 3 days, assuming it was kept cool and in a closed container. This seems prudent, and if the gel looks cloudy, has any discolouration or smell, that would be a sure sign to discard. That said, I did a test with gel that was mixed several days prior; there were no spoilage indications and testing it gave no adverse reaction.

Overall this is a great gel.

Very nice gel pack

I got a ten pack of this massage gel - it's extremely compact and the 10 sachets of powder fit in a tiny box, each is only 5 grams, but once you add water it balloons into 500 ml of gel. I'm not sure how it works but it does amazingly.

You don't have to make 500ml, that's just the upper limit and least viscous possibility, if you use less water you get a more viscous and "heavy" gel - so I would recommend start off by adding 250 ml of water, then increasing it to find the consistency you like best. It takes 15 - 20 minutes to properly set and transform the water into gel.

The gel is free of smells and very slippery stuff - it's just pure gel and works wonderfully for massaging.

This is a bit pricy but for the convenience of having it split up into ten sachets and the overall quality, and compared to similar products I've tried in the past, I don't think it's overly dear, and decent value for money at £34.99 at the time of writing this review - so £3.50 per batch of gel. Should last me a good while.

I like that it's water based and not greasy like oils, and it's easy to clean up and use. Two thumbs up for this gel, very pleased with it!

Interesting Alternative to Seaweed Massage

I ordered this Nuru Massage Gel Powder because I'm a fan of massage techniques and like to try new things.

On the positive side, this Gel arrives in a box of 10 sachets. You mix the powder with water to get a gel. Be certain to follow the instructions to get the consistency of the traditional seaweed for a Japanese-style Nuru Massage. What you end up with is a bit like wallpaper paste (ha ha).

This gel is not in fact made from seaweed but a manufactured alternative. In its favour, it is completely free of odour and taste. It doesn't stain as a massage oil would. It did not cause any irritation either.

The traditional Nuru massage would be body to body and this gel could be used with a partner, or not. I do prefer to add a few drops of essential oil, which I'm already used to.

If massage with a gel forms a major part of your life, this could be worth purchasing on a regular basis, but for me it's much too expensive to be worth it.

Expensive, but a little goes a long way.

Nuru's Platinum Massage Gel Powder is sold in individual 5g sachets, and in a choice of 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 sachet packs, so you can try a single sachet or stock up. In the past I've bought a similar product in a big tub which can absorb moisture from the atmosphere and go rubbery over time, not so with these individual sachets, they're easier to store and you can make just the right amount.

Each 5 g sachet can make up to 500 ml of gel, and you can easily adjust the thickness by using less water for a richer, more luxurious texture. Mixing is straightforward: I find adding the powder to a screw‑top jar works best, then give it a good shake. Let it stand for about 20 minutes, and you’re good to go.

The main ingredient, sodium polyacrylate, hydrates into an incredibly slippery, long‑lasting gel that’s paraben free, fragrance free, odourless and tasteless. It provides a clean, neutral base that works well for both massage and personal lubrication.

Clean-up is effortless because the formula is water soluble — no greasy residue on skin or sheets. It can dry a little on very dry skin, but a quick spritz of water instantly restores the glide.

For a more sensual experience you can add a few drops of your own essential oil to the mix, but dilute sparingly and do a patch test first.

Overall, this has been a superior, easy‑to‑use alternative to oil‑based massage products which I highly recommend.

Convenient, but texture won’t appeal to all

This is a powdered massage gel that you mix with water — and I’ll admit, I initially missed the instruction to combine it with 250ml of water. My first reaction was, “Huh? This is useless!” Once I realised my mistake and mixed it properly, things made much more sense.

Preparation does require patience. It needs very thorough mixing, and it takes a little time to fully dissolve. At first, it looks slightly lumpy and cloudy, but with continued stirring it becomes smooth and translucent. (I’ve included photos of the interim and final mix side by side so you can see the difference.)

The final consistency is closer to a serum or raw egg white texture rather than an oil or lotion. It’s completely fragrance-free and doesn’t feel greasy. That makes it less likely to stain sheets compared to oil-based products, which some people will definitely appreciate.

However, because it isn’t oily, it absorbs or dries more quickly than a traditional massage oil. That means you may need to reapply more frequently during use. As it dries, it can leave a slightly tight or tacky feeling on the skin.

My partner’s verdict was (perhaps a bit harshly!) “a little gloopy,” so texture preference will be personal. If you enjoy oil-based products with long glide time, this may feel different from what you’re used to. If you prefer something non-greasy, easy to rinse off, and less likely to stain fabrics, this could be appealing.

Overall, it’s an interesting, customisable option — particularly useful for travel since you only mix what you need. Just be prepared to mix it thoroughly and allow a little time for the texture to fully develop.
