Does Sakura have any scent?
No. Sakura is fragrance-free. The edition name is a cultural reference to the four key botanicals in the formula (aloe vera, seaweed, liquorice, and green tea), not a scent claim. No added fragrance, essential oils, or dyes.
What does Sakura feel like on the skin?
A smooth, silky gel that glides effortlessly. The aloe vera, seaweed, liquorice, and green tea extracts are chosen for their soothing and moisturising reputation in Japanese skincare, leaving skin feeling softer after rinsing.
How do I mix the powder?
Add 8.45 fl oz to 16.09 fl oz (250ml-500ml) of warm water (40°C/104°F) to a bowl. It is best to start with 250ml and then adjust consistency. Evenly sprinkle around one tsp (5g) of powder to every 16.09 fl oz (500ml) of warm water. Wait around five minutes for the mixture to completely form into massage gel. Apply to wet skin.
Is sodium polyacrylate safe? I've heard it's not natural.
Sodium polyacrylate sounds like a chemistry lab experiment, but it's actually approved as a food additive in Japan, one of the world's most rigorous food safety markets. It's non-toxic, non-irritating, and the ingredient responsible for that signature thick, slippery nuru feel. We've explored natural alternatives extensively, but nothing delivers the authentic experience our customers expect. We'd rather give you something that works safely and effectively than something that just sounds good on a label.
Can I store leftover mixed gel?
No. Our powders contain no preservatives, so mixed gel should be used for that session only and any remainder disposed of. The advantage of the powder format is that you mix fresh every time. For sessions where you only need 500ml, scoop out about 1 teaspoon (roughly 5g) of powder and mix fresh, rather than mixing the whole sachet at once.
Will it stain my sheets?
No. The gel is non-staining on most fabrics and rinses off skin with warm water. Always pair with a waterproof sheet or drop cloth for best protection.
Is the 40g glass container reusable?
Yes. The elegant glass container with natural bamboo lid is designed to be kept and reused once the powder is finished. This is the size we most often recommend as a gift.
Is Sakura good for sensitive skin?
Most people with normal or mildly sensitive skin tolerate Sakura well. If you have very reactive skin, the Platinum (no added botanicals) edition is the safer first choice. Patch test on your forearm before a full session.
Is Sakura vegan?
Yes. Sakura is Vege Project certified vegan.
Which size should I buy first?
Sakura is most popular as the 40g gift presentation or the 50g resealable sachet for everyday use. Professionals and high-frequency users choose the 500g bulk pouch for best value.
Carrageenan (Seaweed)
Carrageenan is a natural extract from red seaweed, used widely in Japanese skincare. It's what gives our powder its signature slippery glide when mixed with water, and leaves skin feeling smoother after rinsing. The seaweed origin connects the formula back to Japan's long tradition of seaweed in cosmetic and bathing rituals.
Aloe barbadensis (Aloe Vera)
Aloe vera is one of the most widely recognised skincare ingredients in the world, and a long-standing favourite in Japanese cosmetic tradition. In our Sakura formula it helps the finished gel feel softer and more moisturising on the skin, particularly noticeable after rinsing. Gentle, familiar, and a classic skincare feel for a nuru massage.
Camellia sinensis Leaf (Green Tea)
Camellia sinensis is the leaf of the tea plant, the same plant that gives us green tea. It has been used in Japanese skincare for generations and adds a light, clean character to the Sakura formula. We included it because it connects the product to Japan's long-standing tradition of tea in wellness and daily ritual.
Glycyrrhiza glabra Root (Liquorice)
Liquorice root has been used in Japanese and wider Asian skincare for centuries. A quiet, traditional ingredient valued for its clean character and its place in classical cosmetic formulas. In Sakura it sits alongside aloe vera, seaweed, and green tea to give the finished gel a soft, well-rounded feel.
